FLORENCE, Ala. - The University of North Alabama Department of Music and Theatre will present a Brass Ensembles Winter Concertat 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, in the Performance Center of the Guillot University Center on the UNA campus.
The concert will feature the UNA Low BrassChoir and the UNA BrassQuintet, both under the direction of Dr. Eddie Elsey Jr. (shown at right).
"The audience can expect a lot of good brass playing," explained Elsey, a UNA associate professor of music. "The UNA Brass Quintet will show technical prowess, the middle portion of the concert will feature myself in various ensemble settings, and the UNA Low Brass Choir will display beauty and variance of dynamics."
The brass quintet will perform what Elsey calls "a neat piece" by Jacques Ibert titled "The Little White Donkey."
"It has donkey-like sounds in the piece that are passed around throughout the ensemble," Elsey noted. "The piece was arranged by the chair of the UNA Department of Music and Theatre, Dr. David McCullough."
The middle portion of the concert will consist of a video-game medley arranged by three UNA low-brass students.
"The last portion contains a piece entitled 'Prelude,' by Dimitri Shostakovich," Elsey continued, "which will showcase a lot of volume and power from the UNA Low Brass Choir."
The concert is presented free of charge. For more information, contact the UNA Department of Music and Theatre at 256-765-5122, or visit http://5or7.zo23.com/music-theatre/.
