Bryan Rachal, Public Affairs and Media Relations FLORENCE, Ala. - President Emeritus William Cale will be the featured speaker at the University of North Alabama spring graduation ceremonies. UNA will host two commencement ceremonies Saturday, May 9, at 10 a.m., and 2 p.m., in Flowers Hall. Cale will speak at both events. A Philadelphia native, Cale served as UNA president from January of 2005 until July of 2014. Cale came to UNA from Pennsylvania State University-Altoona, where he was chief executive officer and dean. He previously served as executive vice president for academic affairs at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. Cale is perhaps best remembered for the academic and physical growth UNA experienced during his tenure, including the institution of several new bachelor's- and master's-level degree programs and the renovation and construction of numerous buildings on campus, culminating with the most recent completion of the brand new state-of-the-art Science and Technology building. In addition to President Emeritus Cale, the university will have two other presidents in attendance: former interim president Dr. John Thornell, and current president Dr. Ken Kitts.
