Michelle EubanksFLORENCE, AL The Flor-Ala, the student newspaper at the University of North Alabama, has won four first-place Spring Scholastic Newspaper Awards from the American Scholastic Press Association. This year's awards are: First Place Overall for Colleges/Universities with an enrollment of 2,501+. First Place for Outstanding Sports Coverage, "Gonzaga Downs North Alabama," by Chase Glover. First Place for Outstanding Cover or Front Cover, "Blank Page." First Place for Outstanding Editorial, "Men Do Not Carry Pepper Spray," by Anna Mahan. "I'm very proud of what they've done," said Flor-Ala Advisor Scott Morris. "It's always gratifying to see them come in and develop, to struggle to become good writers. But, by the end of the year, they do become those good writers, and then they graduate, and you get to start all over again. It's nice to see them develop as writers and editors and as people."
