Financial Expectations
Each chapter has a different cost and cost vary on membership status. You can find information on chapter membership costs here: Financial Transparency. In addition to membership fees, each chapter has a residency requirement: typically, members are expected to live on the chapter floor their Sophomore year.
Academic Expectations
As required by the National Panhellenic Conference, there is no GPA requirement to participate in primary recruitment at the University of North Alabama. However, the four sororities have individual requirements to extend a membership invitation:
Alpha Delta Pi: 3.0 minimum GPA
Alpha Gamma Delta: 3.0 minimum GPA
Phi Mu: 2.8 minimum GPA
Zeta Tau Alpha: 3.0 minimum GPA
Women who have below a 3.00 GPA are advised that they are at a greater risk to be released from the primary recruitment process due to their academics. With the amount of women who participate in the formal recruitment process, GPA tends to be a characteristic all groups strongly consider, especially after the first round of formal recruitment. Being released from formal recruitment or receiving a membership invitation through the formal recruitment process is due to a wide variety of factors that are ultimately up to the sororities. GPA is only one of those factors, but there is much weight placed on GPA.
To help students understand how their GPA may affect their formal recruitment experience, College Panhellenic created Grade Zones to show how academics may factor in formal recruitment.
GPA Zones:
Green Zone = Your options are not likely limited based on your GPA. (3.0 +)
Yellow Zone = Your options are more likely to be limited by your GPA. (2.8 – 2.99)
Red Zone = Your options are very likely to be limited based on GPA. (2.79 and below)
Community Service Expectations
Community service and philanthropy are important to the Panhellenic Community. Each organization has expectations for members to meet a minimum number of service hours each semester:
Alpha Delta Pi: All Members - 10 outside hours/semester, 4 inside hours/semester
Alpha Gamma Delta: Active Members - 7 hours/semester
Phi Mu: New Members - 5 hours/semester, Active Members - 10 hours/semester
Zeta Tau Alpha: New Members - 5 hours/semester, Active Members - 10 hours/semester
Recommendation letters are not required at UNA. If you choose to seek recommendation letters, please know each chapter has their own process for recommendations, however, since recommendations come from alumnae members of the organization, the alumnae writing the recommendation should be aware of the sorority process.
- Alpha Delta Pi: www.alphadeltapi.org (alumna should log into Pride Online to complete and submit)
- Alpha Gamma Delta: http://alphagammadelta.org/rif/ (alumna should complete the recommendation form on this site and submit using the form on this site)
- Phi Mu: www.phimu.org - As of July 9, 2022, Phi Mu Fraternity determined letters of recommendation will not be used at all as part of the membership selection process.
- Zeta Tau Alpha: www.zetataualpha.org (alumna should log into Sisters Only to complete and submit)
Again, recommendation letters are NOT required at UNA.
The sorority mailing addresses can be found here: CPH Sorority Mailing Addresses. Written/mailed letters of recommendation are discouraged. Alumnae should use the online submission process detailed above. We recommend submitting any recommendation letters at least 1 week prior to the start of primary recruitment.
